Business Description:
Allegheny Energy, Inc. operates in the Electric services sector. Allegheny Energy, Inc. (Allegheny) is a diversified utility holding company. The Company is an integrated energy business that owns and operates electric generation facilities and delivers electric services to customers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia. The Company operates in two segments: the Merchant Generation and the Regulated Operations. The Merchant Generation segment includes Allegheny's merchant power generation operations, including the operations of Allegheny Energy Supply Company, LLC (AE Supply) and Allegheny Generating Company (AGC). The Regulated Operations segment includes all of Allegheny's regulated operations, including its electric transmission and distribution (T&D) operations and transmission expansion projects, as well as Monongahela's power generation operations. In January 2010, NTELOS Holdings Corp. announced that it acquired certain fiber optic and network assets, and related transport and data service revenues from Allegheny.
