American Superconductor Corporation operates in the Motors and generators sector. American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC) is a provider of megawatt-scale solutions for wind power. In the wind power market, the Company enables manufacturers to field wind turbines through its advanced engineering, support services and power electronics products. In the power grid market, AMSC enable electric utilities and renewable energy project developers to connect, transmit and distribute power through its transmission planning services and power electronics and superconductor based products. As of April 1, 2011, the Company operated in two segments: Wind and Grid. The Company licenses its engineered wind turbine designs, provides customer support services and supplies advanced power electronics and control systems to wind turbine manufacturers. On August 12, 2010, the Company acquired (through AMSC Windtec GmbH (AMSC Windtec)), a minority ownership position in Blade Dynamics Ltd. (Blade Dynamics).
