DPL Inc. operates in the Electric and other services combined sector. DPL Inc. (DPL) is a regional energy company. DPL's principal subsidiaries are The Dayton Power and Light Company (DP&L) and DPL Energy Resources, Inc. (DPLER). The Company's two segments are the Utility segment, consist of its DP&L subsidiary and the Competitive Retail segment consists of its DPLER subsidiary. DP&L sells electricity to residential, commercial, industrial and governmental customers in a 6,000 square mile area of West Central Ohio. DPLER sells retail electric energy and other energy services. DPL's other wholly owned subsidiaries include DPL Energy, LLC (DPLE), which engages in the operation of peaking generation facilities and sells power in wholesale markets and Miami Valley Insurance Company (MVIC), which is the Company's captive insurance company that provides insurance to the Company and its subsidiaries. Effective November 28, 2011, The AES Corporation acquired the Company.
