Torchmark Corporation operates in the Life insurance sector. Torchmark Corporation (Torchmark) is a holding company specializing in life and supplemental health insurance. It is a holding company for a group of insurance companies, which market primarily individual life and supplemental health insurance, and to a limited extent annuities, to middle income households in the United States. Torchmark's operates in two segments: life insurance and health insurance. Torchmark's insurance subsidiaries write a range of non-participating ordinary life insurance products. These include whole-life insurance, term life insurance, and other life insurance. Torchmark offers supplemental limited-benefit health insurance products that include primarily cancer and accident plans. These policies are designed to supplement health coverage that applicants already own. As of December 31, 2010, the Company sold its subsidiary United Investors Life Insurance Company (United Investors).
