Severstal operates in the Blast furnaces and steel mills sector. Severstal' OAO (Severstal) consists of Severstal Resource, formerly the mining segment, Russian Steel and Severstal North America. Severstal Resource consists of two iron ore complexes, Karelsky Okatysh and Olkon in northwest Russia, and two coal mining complexes, Vorkutaugol in northwest Russia and PBS Coals Ltd. The Russian Steel segment consists of steel production and high-grade automotive galvanizing facilities in Cherepovets; rolling mill in Kolpino; a large-diameter pipe mill in Izhora, metalware plants located in Russia. Severstal North America consists of integrated iron and steek mill, Severstal Dearborn, in the Midwest region, and a mini-mill, Severstal Columbus LLC, in the southeast of the United States. During the year ended December 31, 2010, it discontinued the Lucchini segment, and Severstal Sparrows Point LLC, Severstal Warren LLC, Severstal Wheeling and Mountain State Carbon LLC. During 2010, it acquired 26.6% and 13.8% interests in Crew Gold Corporation (CGC).
