The sales level in 2016 was fairly close to the level five years ago: in 2011, Smiths Group PLC had sales of $4.55 billion. Contributing to the drop in overall sales was the 14.9% decline in John Crane, from $1.41 billion to $1.20 billion. There were also decreases in sales in Smith Medical (down 3.0% to $1.27 billion) and Smiths Interconnect (down 3.9% to $630.25 million) and Flex-Tek (down 2.0% to $411.48 million) . However, these declines were partially offset by the increase in sales of Smiths Detection (up 4.5% to $762.10 million) .
