Sales at Kaneka have increased during each of the previous five years (and since 2011, sales have increased a total of 22%). Sales of Life Sciences saw an increase that was more than double the company's growth rate: sales were up 10.3% in 2016, from ¥53.40 billion to ¥58.92 billion. Kaneka also saw significant increases in sales in Foods (up 3.7% to ¥144.96 billion) and Functional Plastics (up 3.1% to ¥98.39 billion) and Synthetic Fibers and Others (up 2.5% to ¥45.26 billion) . Not all segments of Kaneka experienced an increase in sales in 2016: sales of Electronics fell 9.1% to ¥39.12 billion. Kaneka also experienced decreases in sales in Chemicals (down 6.6% to ¥103.43 billion) and Plastics (down 0.9% to ¥65.15 billion) .
