Its segments include Zinc-India, Zinc-International, Oil & Gas, Iron Ore, Copper-India/Australia, Copper-Zambia, Aluminium and Power. Its geographical segments include India, China, Far East Asia, Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia Others, UK and Others. Its Copper business includes a copper smelter, over two refineries and over two copper rod plants in India; a copper mine in Australia, and an integrated operation in Zambia consisting of approximately three mines, a leaching plant and a smelter. The Company's oil and gas operations consist of the assets of Cairn India Limited in India, Sri Lanka and South Africa.

The sales level in 2016 was fairly close to the level five years ago: in 2011, Vedanta Resources PLC had sales
of £7.33 billion.
Contributing to the drop in overall sales was the 40.9% decline
in Oil and Gas, from £1.49 billion to £880.53 million.
There were also decreases in sales in
Copper- India/ Australia (down 7.1% to £2.13 billion)
Zinc (down 4.1% to £1.41 billion)
Aluminum (down 12.8% to £1.13 billion)
Zinc-International (down 28.6% to £260.70 million)
Eliminations (down 11.5% to £15.85 million)
However, these declines were partially offset by the increase in sales of
Copper-Zambia (up 17.2% to £643.74 million)
Iron Ore (up 17.5% to £227.61 million)
Power (up 34.0% to £460.61 million)
